The inability to unleash the potential of young talented football players is our long-standing illness. It all starts with training at the youth sports school, where children are still often repressed instead of helping them open up. In this case, parents may need to consider hiring an individual trainer. If your child is too shy or insufficiently socialized, it is very important to choose the right trainer. Therefore, make sure that he is experienced with children, has the appropriate certificates and resume matching to the personal trainer resume sample, as it’s required.

There is another thing. How to build a training schedule so that children develop not only technology, but also football intelligence? What to tell them after mistakes? What can never be said? How to bring to the basic structure? There is no single correct answer to these questions, but there are systems that bring results. One of the most successful football systems of the last decade is Spanish, based on constant control of the ball.
Jordi Gratacos Gayola, a UEFA Pro football coach, consultant and former scout, agreed to tell us where it starts. Now he works as the director of the Barcelona school in Moscow. Based on an interview with Jordi, we will made these theoretical and practical recommendations for working with football players. Let’s start with the main thing – psychology. So, here are top 10 tips on what players need to be told.
This cannot be overestimated. The younger the footballer is, the more important the trust of his coach. It is important to be felt, there are no room for disagreements.
2. Accepting errors
The trainer must remember that mistakes are part of the training. The first reaction to a slip is always negative, it is natural, but wrong. Error is not an enemy. When disassembling it, it is easiest to learn something, so any mistake is a friend and a helper. If a soccer player, who is 10 or 14 years old makes a mistake, the reaction should be concrete, and the advice is applicable in practice. It is necessary to explain what exactly he had to do differently. If the error repeats, you need to explain it again. 10 times. The main thing that interests us is the player’s reaction. The right reaction will help to progress.
At a competitive level, at the age of 18, players themselves already understand what their mistakes are worth. And before the result comes to the first place, mistakes should be appreciated as a way to learn new things. And by the way: no matter how scolded for failures the baller is, these errors are inevitable. Without them, all matches would end in a draw.
3. All activities must be with a ball
Starting from the warm-up. Do you make the usual exercises? Hold the ball in your hands. Do you run? Kick the ball, run with it. The ball should be nearby all the time. To get used to it is important.
4. Stay calm
It is wrong to live without emotion at all, but excessive temperament harms the coach. This is football: you win, draw and lose. If you become too emotional to react to each result, this will confuse the team, especially young people. Players will become nervous, easily fall into euphoria and depression, this affects the psyche. You need to keep calm. You must learn to maintain balance.
There are a few people for whom there are no defeats. But they are the exceptions. Most people have a different mentality, and it is important to consider this to cause no damage to the psyche of the child or adolescent.
5. Accept that everyone has flaws
You can make an impeccable plan, but lose, because your players simply can’t fulfill it. Nobody’s perfect. All players have weaknesses. This should not be forgotten.
6. Everything must have a goal
You need to know exactly what each exercise is for. Everything that is done in training should be subject to some goal. Not just having a good time, playing soccer or running a lot and getting very tired. You need a goal for each exercises that are done. Therefore, it is important to prepare a plan in advance and spend a lot of time on its preparation. No improvisations during training.
7. Show an example
It’s not necessary to have the perfect technique. But if you work with children and adolescents, you must be able to show how to perform the exercise. Firstly, how can one demand something that you don’t know how to do yourself? Secondly, only by setting an example, you can be sure that children will understand you correctly. This is a professional football coach who can wear a suit, boots and not touch the ball. But when it comes to youth, the mentor must be a person from football. A minimal ball handling technique is needed.
8. Victory is not the main cause
When working with youth, it is very important to forget about the significance of victories. Players must also forget about it. The goal is to progress, to become better in the technical, physical and psychological aspects, and not to win children’s competitions.
Your player has entered the field to play. How is he doing? This is the real world, so it is possible that he was tired, did not get enough sleep, and does not feel well. And football is a draining activity. It is not enough to give the child a cause, help is needed. For example, if he is tired and does not move much, do not ask: “What happened? Got not enough sleep?”. You have to say: “Listen, you look tired. So play the pass. Take the rhythm slowly. ”
10. Protect Talent
The main thing that any player has is his individual abilities. Some have talent. The worst thing you can do is to lose it. Someone has excellent speed, someone is good at dribbling, in a one-on-one situation. Let each player do whatever he is good at. For example, your player is good at dribbling. And so, the match begins, he goes dribbling twice, loses the ball, cuts the team. Say you missed one goal because of him. You shout at him, replace him, and he will no longer go to dribbling. Or he will, but he will be afraid to make mistakes. Let him play on. We are talking about young guys, not about the Champions League match.
These tips are interconnected. They are aimed at helping to unleash the abilities of each player and make him psychologically stable. In the following articles we will talk about mistakes in working with young football players and about some training methods.
