Kuyt Hits Three Against Manchester United.
Dirk Kuyt has become an integral part of Liverpool’s first team squad since arriving in 2006 from Eredivisie side Feyenoord. Kuyt came to Liverpool with a big goal scoring reputation, but it was his all-action performances and non-stop work rate that won his place in the hearts of Liverpool supporters. While at times Kuyt has been criticized for his lack of technical ability, he always puts in a shift and works harder than any player over 90 minutes. Against Manchester United this afternoon, he showed Liverpool fans what he’s still capable of in front of goal as well as how important he is to the team’s overall performance – he’s a man Kenny Dalglish just cannot afford to lose at the moment.
After the match, Kuyt spoke to Sky Sports 1 about his performance:
“It’s perfect. You dream about the hat trick and to do it against [Manchester] United is the best feeling ever. I’m more than happy but I have to thank Luis [Suarez] because he played great and created two of the goals. They were quite easy goals, I used to score them in Holland when I played more like a striker. They count and I’m more than happy to take them.”
It’s Dirk Kuyt’s first ever hat trick in a Liverpool shirt, and none will feel better than this one. Kenny Dalglish also had words for the press after the match:
“They deserved that for the discipline, application and pride shown in themselves and the club. It’s been a tough season, it’s not finished yet but this has been the highest point so far for our supporters.”
Dalglish has turned Liverpool around since he took over in January, and he’ll be hoping he can lead Liverpool back up to the very top of the Premier League within the next few seasons. The fans are behind him, the players are playing for him, and the sky seems the limit for Liverpool at the moment.
